Modern Art: An intro to eclectic design

Some of you have been asking how to ease yourself into incorporating different design styles into an ecclectix mix.  Well a good start is artwork - If you have a more contemporary style in your space, pick a more traditional piece: a gilt frame, a portrait of a person or animal, or something that you think feels aged.

If you have more of a classic taste in your interiors, choose something that has an abstract feel.  I terms of modern art, you can find some pretty wild and crazy pieces, so a sure bet is to pick something bold, but nuetral. 

If you don't have the means to drop thousands on an original, make your own!! Painters canvas can be picked up at any craft store and grab any kind of paint and just play, you don't even need a brush!  Here are few simple pieces that can serve as a great inspiration--
