Another Droolworthy Lake House

Memorial Day Weekend means a large body of water, grill, a few cockies and having American Pride.  An easy, breezy, calming palette melts all of your daily routine away, for a few days anyway.

I love a good lake house, as previously shared here. This Wisconsin Lake house, is the epitome of relaxation.  Even if you can't get away for a weekend retreat, this is a great relaxing inspiration for your home-- Not beachy, but not woodsy, the perfect mix of both masculine and feminine.

A very serene color palette, with reclaimed wood to ground the look and keep it from being too beachy.  I love the touch of the antlers.

Lots of natural light floods this house, even with the straw shades drawn, natural light can stream through.

A super uncomplicated kitchen, with plenty of style.  After all, you want to be soaking up the outside, not slaving over the stove.

Such beautiful simplicity, and a great retreat for the eyes and soul.

Foodie Friday ad Happy Early Cinco

Monday's Cinco de Mayo and us southerners love any chance to eat Tex-Mex,  its definitively a staple around here.  In any case, most people can toss back a few good Margies and fiesta your pants off on a Monday then be productive at work the next day (unless you're a complete rock star I suppose).   So to start your Mexican Independence Day Weekend off the right way, here's a pretty stellar dip recipe and of course a few Mexico inspired interiors to get you in the spirit.

Taco Dip

1 can refried beans (16oz)
1 pkg cream cheese softened
1 cup sour cream
2 tbs taco seasoning mix
2 garlic cloves, pressed
1/2 cup cheddar cheese
1/2 cup pitted ripe olive, chopped
2 tbs cilantro, chopped
1 medium tomato, seeded and chopped
1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Spread refried beans over bottom of an oven safe 9x13ish) dish.  Combine cream cheese, sour cream, taco seasoning, and garlic.  Then spread over beans, and sprinkle with shredded cheese.  Bake for 15-18 minutes or until hot and bubbly. Top with chopped olives, tomatoes, cilantro and green onions.  Serve with tortilla chips (and if you can find them, Julio's, you'll be hooked!)

And then for a little atmosphere-

How cool are these decals for a quick little update for a party or to bring some color to your back splash?

Happy Valentines Day!!!

So I know about half of the population is V-day haters, but when it comes down to it every girl loves a little drippy heart felt romance for one day a year.  "It should be Valentines day every year" is lame and would drive me nuts.  Think about it, your man sending flowers and chocolates everyday....Kind of creepy and not good for the waistline. Too much a good thing is bad in this case.  But, its still fun to have a Valentine and get into the spirit (I'm rocking my red skinnies today as a matter of fact).

So my not too overly sweet ode to the Day Designated to Love-

Giving Thanks

Its that time of year again, and if you are the lucky one who gets to host your friends and family this week could be a little overwhelming--But the Decor shouldn't.  And if the decor is good, I bet the food will taste better ;)  Here are my favorites from around the web.

Thanksgiving doesn't have to be all colorful leaves and pumpkins, natureal colors and twigs make an elegant backdrop, just shop your house!

My kind of tablescape, gold and leopard.  Make your own gold dot place mats with Q-tips, and art paper for a modern twist.  And don't forget to paint the acorns a gold for a place setting (reusable for Christmas too).

This DIY has been on my list for awhile now, but every time I stand in line at Dollar Tree the line stops moving and I get frustrated over a $4 purchase and leave (this has happened twice)  But one of these days I will get to it.

This eclectic dining room and decor looks like its straight out of Anthropologie.  And we all know that Anthropologie is just cool.

No one said that you can't compliment your own house decor with decor. And leftover pumpkins from Halloween painted is a MUST!

The ghostly pumpkins can also be re-used from your spooky Halloween, just be sure to mix with some warmer colors.

If you are lucky enough to have nice weather, and can celebrate ala Pilgrims and Indians style, do re-use wine glasses.  Keep your tablscape simple with crisp neutrals.  Let nature be the backdrop.

Or neutrals indoors :)

And for the Kiddie Table, a little punch of orange and tan with a cute graphic and an art project Mug to keep them entertained.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Glamourous Champagne

Now on to New Years! And what's New Years without a little bubbly?

Champagne is one of my absolute favesies--  Love the taste, the bubbles and the glamour of it all.  BUT, I have always adored the look of the coupes, although the preferred way to drink bubbly is from the flutes- it keeps it fizzing longer, and cooler.

But something about the Coupes are so casual and 1920's.  By the way, another Ikea hack making console/bar. ADORE!

So I started out on the hunt for some fabulous Coupes.  Surprisingly they aren't to hard to find, and if you hunt hard enough you can find some great gold rimmed ones :)
